Beto O’Rourke is a name that has been on the lips of many Americans lately, especially after his debate against Ted Cruz. While he is lesser known than some of the other candidates running for office, there are still many things to know about him. Beto O’Rourke was born on September 26, 1972, in El Paso, Texas. The name “Beto” is a nickname for Roberto. His parents are Melissa and Pat O’Rourke. Beto has three sisters, Erin, Molly and Olivia.

Beto graduated from Columbia University in 1994 with a degree in English Literature. He then returned to El Paso and worked as a web designer and journalist. In 1999, he co-founded Stanton Street Technology Group, a web design company.

In 2005, Beto ran for the El Paso City Council and was elected to represent District 8. He served on the council until 2011 when he decided to run for Congress.

In 2012, Beto was elected to represent Texas’s 16th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was reelected in 2014 and 2016.

In March 2018, Beto announced he was running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Republican Senator Ted Cruz. In the November 2018 election, Beto narrowly lost to Cruz, 49% to 51%.

Beto is married to Amy Hoover Sanders, a high school teacher. They have three children: Ulysses, Henry and Molly.

In his free time, Beto enjoys playing the guitar and going on long runs.

Beto has said that he is “thinking about running for president in 2020.”
