Print on demand is a great way for niche markets and specialized texts to be published. It allows authors who don’t want their work limited by the availability of traditional publishing houses, while still maintaining profitability in an increasingly saturated book market environment

The local history of a small community is well adapted to print on demand, as these books are invaluable to libraries and archives in that region but they can be limited outside. Public libraries which normally avoid PODs due them being lower quality will readily make exceptions if content fits with an appropriate topic for which there isn’t already more conventional means available at the library such as printed material from other sources or online databases/catalogues where users have access through their home computer system – often referred-to by librarians specifically avoiding Print On Demand titles because it’s easier not having anything physically changed hands between author & buyer!
